A typical day
You receive the plan, bring the tubes and fittings to the area and build the scaffold level by level, tying it to the structure. You check each lift, fit boards and guardrails and tag the scaffold when it is complete. Later you alter or dismantle it in the safe order.
Questions you may be asked
Employers and recruiters often ask questions like these. There is no single right answer: be honest, give a real example from your own work and say plainly when you have not done something yet.
- How do you check that a scaffold is stable before people use it?
- What protects you when you are working at height?
- What would you do if you find a damaged fitting?
Staying safe on the job
Use a harness and clip on where required, never overload boards, and tag a scaffold as safe or unsafe so no one uses an incomplete one.
Where this role can lead
Scaffolders can progress to advanced scaffolder, chargehand or inspector roles, subject to training.
