Who can apply
-
The initial residence-and-work authorisation (type A.1) lets a newcomer live and work in Andorra. The applicant must fall within the legally set quota, hold an open-ended employment contract with a company legally established in Andorra, and set up permanent and effective residence in the country.
Government of Andorra: A.1 Residence and work, initial authorisation (Catalan), read 8 October 2026
Contract and pay
-
The first authorisation lasts one year and can be renewed three times for two-year periods. After seven years, later renewals are for ten years, except for nationals of states that have a convention with Andorra.

The application file includes the employment contract and a statement of professional and salary conditions, so the contract terms are on record with the authority. It also needs criminal-record certificates from your country of origin, nationality and residence, a medical-review consent, and a CV with diplomas.

Geography
Andorra is a tiny microstate entirely within the Pyrenees mountains, wedged between France and Spain — there is no flat land to speak of, and the whole country sits above 1,000m elevation.
Economy and Key Industries
Key industries
- Tourism: winter skiing (Grandvalira, one of southern Europe's largest ski areas) and summer hiking
- Retail: historically a tax-free shopping destination for French and Spanish visitors
- Financial services: a small, low-tax banking sector
Foreign Worker Population
A high proportion of Andorra's residents are foreign-born — largely Spanish, Portuguese, and French — reflecting the tiny native population relative to the resort and retail workforce it needs.
Lifestyle for Foreign Workers
Climate
A true alpine climate: cold, snowy winters (ski season roughly December–April) and mild summers.
Cost of living
High relative to wages in most roles — communities are small and close-knit, and the country is exceptionally safe and orderly.
Sectors EMIGRATLY Places Into
