Construction
Overseas construction jobs verified by EMIGRATLY — civil, structural, MEP, and finishing trades across the GCC, Europe and Eurasia, and beyond.
Construction is EMIGRATLY's highest-volume sector by headcount. Major infrastructure, real estate, and giga-project pipelines across the GCC and beyond mean sustained demand for both skilled tradespeople and general labor, on contracts we verify directly with the employer before anyone is matched.
Typical Roles and Work Environment
Roles range from general labor and formwork/shuttering to skilled trades (steel fixing, masonry, tiling, painting) and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) installation, up to site supervisors and foremen. Work is almost always on-site, often on large multi-year developments, with shift patterns adjusted for extreme heat in Gulf destinations (early starts, mandated midday breaks in summer).
Where EMIGRATLY Places This Sector
The GCC (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar in particular) accounts for the largest share of EMIGRATLY's construction contracts, driven by ongoing giga-projects and infrastructure investment. Growing secondary demand comes from Europe and Eurasia's rebuilding and infrastructure markets and from Mauritius' tourism-driven construction sector.
Employer-provided accommodation and transport to site is standard on GCC construction contracts — your TAPS specialist confirms these terms are in writing before you accept an offer.
Who Thrives in This Sector
Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in heat are baseline requirements for most site roles. Prior hands-on experience matters more than formal certificates for general labor and most trades; specific trade certifications (welding, scaffolding, crane/plant operation) command higher pay and faster matching where you hold them.
What speeds up your match
- A trade certificate or apprenticeship record, even an informal one
- Photos or a reference letter showing prior similar work
- Basic English or Arabic (Gulf contracts), useful but not always required for labor-grade roles
Pay, Hours, and Conditions
Pay scales with skill level: general labor sits at the base of the range, skilled trades and plant operators earn meaningfully more, and site supervisors more again. Most GCC construction contracts run 8–10 hour days, 6 days a week, with overtime paid per UAE/Saudi/Qatari labor law for hours beyond the standard. Employer-provided housing (shared, camp-style accommodation on larger projects) and transport are standard; food is sometimes included, sometimes a separate allowance.
Summer working-hours restrictions (a mandated midday break during the hottest months) apply across most GCC countries and are a legal requirement, not a courtesy.
Career Path and Progression
General labor is the most common entry point; the fastest progression is into a recognized trade (steel fixing, tiling, MEP) through on-the-job experience, then into a leading-hand or supervisor role. Site supervisors and foremen with several years of GCC experience are in real demand and command a significant pay step up. Larger contractors also promote experienced tradespeople into safety officer or quality-control roles.
