Ask a specialist — Fees and payment

How can I go abroad for work without getting into debt?

Add up every cost with our cost planner and ask who is meant to pay each one. Avoid paying for services that are not needed to get the job, and check the recruiter with your own government before you pay anything. Before you borrow, ask for the amount, interest, repayment dates and charges in writing, and work out the total you will repay. Be very cautious about any loan arranged by the recruiter or someone connected to them, and do not give your passport or other important documents as security.

If you feel you cannot leave a job because of a debt, contact your embassy or a worker support organisation.
